SECURE YOURSELF NOW WITH HPV VACCINE

Main Campus, 25th April- The National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) partnered with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to provide 120 doses of the HPV vaccine for students. The vaccination drive was held at Dewan Kompleks Cahaya Siswa (KOMCA) USM from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event offered free registration for students, allowing them to walk in and receive the vaccine.

The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine significantly reduces the risk of developing various types of cancer, such as cervical, anal, vaginal, vulvar, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers, by preventing HPV infection, as this virus is strongly linked to these cancer types. By receiving the HPV vaccination, students can effectively reduce their exposure to the virus, thereby preventing HPV-related health issues. This proactive approach to vaccination not only safeguards individual health but also contributes to the broader goal of reducing the burden on the healthcare system.

Program Executive, Premitha said HPV vaccine serves as an essential means of preventing HPV infections and related health complications, such as cancer and genital warts. Beyond safeguarding individual well-being, its widespread adoption leads to enhanced public health outcomes and diminished healthcare expenditures. This campaign aims to raise awareness among students and the public about the significance of HPV vaccination. By educating individuals about the benefits of vaccination in preventing HPV infections and associated health problems

“Raising awareness about HPV vaccination among girls aged 13 to 30, as well as youngsters with disabilities (OKU) aged 9 to 30, is essential for they to take care the health and well-being. The Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) and the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) are instrumental in disseminating information and orchestrating vaccination campaigns tailored to these demographics. By collaborating with schools, matriculation programs, and colleges, these organizations can effectively spread awareness about the importance of HPV vaccination”, said Premitha.

Student, Chan Mei Xiu, Housing Building, Planning, 3 said she noticed this campaign through her peers' discussions and recognized the importance of the principle ‘prevention is better than cure’, so she decides to take HPV vaccine. All of us understand that female diseases, such as those associated with HPV, are prevalent and can cause significant trouble, so she has decided to take the HPV vaccine as a proactive measure.
This decision reflects a proactive approach to health and well-being, aligning with the idea that prevention through vaccination is preferable to dealing with the consequences of disease later.

Understanding the benefits of the HPV vaccine helps people make smart choices about their health. Ignoring vaccines can lead to health problems, so it is important to stay informed and take preventive action.
